Our Story
Working in schools for many years in various roles has revealed a troubling reality about our current educational system. Numerous young people graduate, or leave school early, without the necessary skills to navigate what life will throw at them after school. For many, traditional learning doesn't resonate, and they thrive when acquiring hands-on skills. RiverBank aims to teach practical skills that many young people genuinely need to succeed in the real world. This approach provides kids with the opportunity to pursue meaningful and enjoyable careers while fostering a passion for something greater.
It takes a village to raise a child, and you can connect with RiverBank Youth Works, led by Christian “Chippy” Petersen and his wife, Heather (President), who established the Not-for-Profit Company in 2023. The Founding Board also included current Board Members Montana Carrett (Secretary), Tegan Copelin (Community Engagement) and Darcy Lang (Cultural Enrichment). As the program has evolved, they have welcomed Luke Carrett (Treasurer), and Lisa Almagro (Program Facilitation). Together, this dedicated team is fostering lifelong skills within the community.
